This three-day course provides 18 continuing education hours [see Continuing Education page for more information] including lecture/discussion and plenty of hands-on experiences that you can adapt and apply to your work with children, teens, adults, families and groups. The course is open to mental health professionals, health care professionals, expressive arts facilitators and graduate students. This course usually fills up quickly and with a wonderful group of professionals from all over the US. If you decide to attend, you will find that downtown Louisville is a wonderful, relaxed and compact city, highly walkable and delightful to the eye with fabulous art and architecture. And fabulous food so be prepared to enjoy the cuisine!
Join us at the fabulous KMAC in downtown Louisville KY for this three-day course presenting the advanced foundations of trauma-informed practice and the latest research and approaches to expressive arts and play, body-based strategies and resilience. Participants will learn art therapy and expressive arts therapy strategies and applications to increase their understanding of trauma-informed approaches, enhance resilience in various client populations and reduce stress responses to trauma and loss and engage in a variety of hands-on arts-based experiences using mind-body, mindfulness, wellness and strength-based best practices grounded in emerging research. The essential practices presented in this course can be applied to individuals of all ages and families, groups and communities from a culturally-responsive, trauma-informed approach.
For those who have completed Level One Trauma-Informed Expressive Arts Therapy, this will provide the opportunity for you to complete the Level Two Certificate. If you have not taken Level One, no worries-- you can register for this course and receive a Certificate for Advanced Trauma-Informed Expressive Arts Therapy [if you wish you can complete Level One online or at a live presentation at another time and location].
By attending the entire three days, participants will learn:
Course Hours: 9:00 am - 12 noon and 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm each day for a total of 18 continuing education hours. Course materials are provided to registrants during the week before the course via email; additional materials are provided during the course meetings. Participants are asked to bring a few basic art materials; additional materials are provided during each day of the training.

Continuing Education: This course provides 18 hours of continuing education; a Certificate of Completion will be provided to each participant upon successful completion of course attendance and evaluation. Educators should check with their boards to make sure this offering provides necessary continuing education hours for certification or licensure renewal.
Counselors/National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). Trauma-Informed Practices and Expressive Arts Therapy Institute has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6557. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC are clearly identified. Trauma-Informed Practices and Expressive Arts Therapy Institute is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. Trauma-Informed Practices and Expressive Arts Therapy Institute is an Approved Continuing Education Provider by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. Our Texas Provider Number is 2318.
Art Therapy Credentials Board [ATCB]. The ATCB recognizes a variety of CEC activities, including those in the areas of professional and mental health counseling. These activities are clearly outlined in their recertification standards provided to all ATR-BCs in their recertification year and on their website. A minimum of six CECs must be earned in the area of ethics each cycle. If you are licensed as an art therapist in your state, please check with your state board to verify what types of CEC activities are acceptable for license renewal.
Art Therapists, Music Therapists, Drama Therapists and Dance Therapists. Please check with your credentials board or state license board to ensure that any courses you take can be applied for credential renewal.
If you are working on Registration as an Expressive Arts Therapist, this coursework will provide 18 hours of classroom learning.
California Marriage and Family Therapists, Social Workers, Educational Psychologists and Professional Counselors. As of July 1, 2015, the State of California /Board of Behavioral Sciences [BBS] amended its regulations for continuing education providers to include National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) as a "board-recognized approval agency." If you are licensed as a marriage and family therapist, social worker, educational psychologist or professional clinical counselor in California, NBCC Approved Continuing Education Providers are recognized by the BBS to fulfill continuing education requirements. As of July 1, 2015, required CE hours can be accumulated entirely through self-study and distance learning.

KMAC Museum is an American art museum that "connects people to Art and Creative Practice". The museum is a 501c3 organization located in the West Main District of downtown Louisville, Kentucky. Because the course will be held on the third floor of this venue, you will be treated to seeing exhibits while you are on your breaks and before and after the training hours. There is a wonderful coffee shop on site as well as a gift store with local and national artisans' artwork.
Lodging: We are currently working on arrangements with downtown hotels and will update this section shortly. Below are three hotels that participants from out of town have used in the past and are walking distance to KMAC. One can never starve in downtown Louisville because there are some of the best restaurants in all price ranges with fabulous cuisine and access to Fourth Street Live for entertainment and dining.
